Southwestern Landfill Environmental Assessment

Walker Environmental Southwestern Landfill Proposal

Happening Now

Walker is continuing the Environmental Assessment (EA) process for the Southwestern Landfill under new legislation in Bill 197.  Answering all community questions and addressing concerns has always been and continues to be the priority for Walker.  The best way to do this is by completing the public consultation phase of the EA process.  Walker will continue to engage openly and transparently with Oxford County residents and municipal officials, as we have since the inception of this project.

The public consultation period will be extended by an additional two weeks until September 11th.   Members of the public are invited to participate in more virtual events to provide their input.  Details of further community engagement opportunities will be posted in the coming weeks.

Community members are encouraged to provide input in a number of ways:

  • Contact Walker’s Ingersoll office at info@walkerea.com or by phone at 1 (855) 392-5537 to speak with a Walker representative.
  • Schedule an appointment with a Walker representative to discuss the draft EA.
  • Submit comments or questions through info@walkerea.com
  • Follow updates on Facebook here to be notified of future public events.

Walker's proposed Southwestern Landfill, in the Township of Zorra, Oxford County would provide many economic benefits to the community and the Province, totaling $349 million in GDP over the life of the landfill. These benefits include the addition of full time jobs for the community, as well as potential savings for local businesses by providing a local disposal option. Watch the video below to learn about the economic benefits of the Southwestern Landfill.
