2016 Public Events

In March 2016, the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the Southwestern Landfill EA was approved with amendments by the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change. The ToR is a detailed guideline about how Walker will carry out the EA. The approval of the ToR means that Walker is permitted to carry out the Enviornmental Assessment, which includes techncial and scientific studies. Since the approval of the ToR, Walker has held three public events.

November 2016 Workshop

This workshop was held on November 16, 2016. Walker Environmental committed to this public event in section 10.2 (page 65-66) of the Approved Amended Terms of Reference. It focused on a discussion of the Preferred Alternatives (selected options for study) for 5 key landfill components:

  • Landfill footprint
  • Landfill design
  • Haul route
  • Leachate management
  • Landfill gas management.

There was dialogue about how the Preferred Alternatives were evaluated and selected, as well as how those alternatives would actually look and operate.

2012-2013 Public Events

There were three public events held while the Terms of Reference (ToR) was being developed for the Southwestern Landfill EA. The ToR is a detailed guideline about how Walker will carry out the Environmental Assessment (EA). The ToR had to be approved by the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change before Walker could proceed with the EA-phase.
